Smart India Hackathon 2022
Four teams from Pillai College of Engineering were selected to compete in the Grand Finale of Software Edition. Two teams: “Team Homebrew” and “Team SARBOT” were winners with First Prize Rs. 1,00,000/- and Rs. 75,000/-.
Team Homebrew provided a solution for the problem statement “Extraction of Data including voice and images from various social Media platforms from Disaster struck areas”, which was floated by NDRF. Nodal center for the team was Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU). Team was headed by Om Surve and team members were Shreya Mohan Belanekar, Hitesh Lukesh Meta,Kunal Kishor Wagh, Yash Ramdas Wakekar and Tanishq Parkar. Prof. Jinesh Melvin was mentor of the Team.
Team SARBOT was a Hardware team under the Student Innovation category. They worked on “Design an amphibious spherical robot for search and rescue operations”. Problem statement was selected by students by themselves. Nodal center for the team was Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. Team was headed by Aakash Shenil and team members were Sejal Pandey, Mayur Patil, Mrunal Gangurde, Utkarsh A. Shinde and Saurav Singh. Team was mentored by Prof. Salim Jafri.
Virtual Hackathon: MIT COVID-19 Challenge Hackathon, ‘India: Turning the Tide
Proud to share that Mr. Siddhesh K Shivdikar (team name The Viral Truth) , A student of Computer Engineering Department, Pillai College of Engineering, New Panvel, Won the Virtual hackathon: MIT COVID-19 Challenge hackathon, ‘India: Turning the Tide Organized by Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The Hackathon was conducted during 28th to 30th August 2020.
He, alongwith his team worked on Track: Highlighting and communicating COVID-19 information that is scientifically accurate.
Source of problem statement:
People forward misleading information over social medias or in person which cause chaos.
Solution provided:
Developed an AI Assistant Mockup (With proof of concept) which is platform independent identifies the information with single tap supports multiple language Including voice queries. With gamification features that makes checking facts before forwarding message a habit.
Rewards:
$500 per winning team along with the reward, the team will receive organizational support, computing resources, and direct access to key partners to further develop, validate and implement solutions developed.

Smart India Hackathon 2019
Smart India Hackathon 2019 was a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem solving. 1500+ teams were competing in various 48 nodal centers nationwide in the grand finale of software hackathon on 2nd and 3rd March, 2019.
In SIH 2019, the students also had the opportunity to work on challenges faced within the private sector organisations and create a world class solutions for some of the top companies in the world, thus helping the Private sector hire the best minds from across the nation.
Six teams from Pillai College of Engineering were selected for this mega-endeavour for software edition. And two teams: “Team Status200_OK” and “Team Code_Crunch” got first prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- in complex category. Team Status200_OK provided a solution on problem statement “Information Management System”, which was floated by Min. of Statistics and PI at nodal center Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management & Technology, Guwahati, Assam. Team was headed by Tejas Chaudhari and team members are Abhay Gupta, Sahil Kadu, Rahul Chavan, Anindita Bhajan, Ronak Karani. Prof. Dhiraj Amin was mentor of the team.
Team Code_Crunch provided a solution on problem statement “Online Adaptive Assessment Platform”, which was floated by SSEPL Skills Pvt. Ltd. at nodal center CGC – Chandigarh Engineering College, Landran, Mohali, Panjab. Team was headed by Mahesh Gopal Mahajan and team members are Pranali Ramesh Sawant, Sajida Begum, Soham Sandeep More, Preetam B. A., Karan Nair. Prof. Ninad Gaikwad was mentor of the team.
Team Coding Predators proposed a solution for problem statement floated by AICTE, “AICTE Event / Activity (Workshops, Talks, FDP, Meeting etc.) management system” at Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab. Team was headed by Ketaki Barde and team members were Shweta Achary, Kritika Shah, Shrayesh Kanade, Salman Mapkar, Ankush Bari. Prof. Aju Palleri was mentor for the team.
Team #the_brainiacs# proposed a solution for problem statement floated by ThermoFisher Scientific, “Integrated Health Care App / Portal”, at nodal center Sree Buddha College of Engineering, Alappuzha, Padanilam, Kerala. Team was headed by Nimje Mansi Kishor and team members were Zagade Pooja Valmik, Shetty Akshay Puranjay, Sagar Govind Patel, Dixit Abhishek Ratan, Dhekane Abhishek Jaywant. Prof. Jinesh Melvin was mentor for the team.
Team #Ciphers proposed a solution for problem statement floated by CDK, Global, “Ambulance Services”, at nodal center Sree CMR College of Engineering & Technology, Hyderabad, Telangana. Team was headed by Gupta Vinod and team members were Irfat Kapde, Saqiuzzaman Hossain, Pooja Ingle, Balraj Singh, Nachiket Sonawane. Prof. Amol Kharat was mentor for the team.
Team Code_Brainiacs proposed a solution for the problem statement floated by Ministry of External Affairs, “Application to show process ID and Remote conn.”, at nodal center Pranveer Singh Institute of Technology, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Team was headed by Prathamesh Patade and team members were Kalpaj Chaudhari, Shravan Nambiar, Karan Shah, Kritika Singh, Himanshu Kaloni. Prof. Smita Kadam was mentor for the team.
Smart India Hackathon 2018
Smart India Hackathon is a non-stop digital product development competition, where problems are posed to technology students for innovative solutions. To make development a comprehensive mass movement and put governance within everyone’s reach in India, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, envisages a Digital India to bridge the digital divide in our country and further promote digital literacy. In order to work towards our PM’s vision, MHRD, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Inter Institutional Inclusive Innovation Center (i4C) and Persistent Systems organized Smart India Hackathon 2018.
Smart India Hackathon 2018 was conducted in two editions: Software and Hardware. Two teams from Pillai College of Engineering were selected for this mega-endeavour for software edition. TEAM-Turing Revival participated in the Smart India Hackathon 2018 under CSIR in Pune. And TEAM The Iterators created Face recognition based attendance app for Government of Delhi, Dhiraj Amin and Aju Palleri were mentors for these teams.

In Hardware Hackathon 2018 Team Prayaas was selected for grand finale in IIT Guwahati. Their problem statement was for Government of Sikkim. Team Prayaas won 1st runner up in Smart India Hackathon 2018 Hardware version. The Team was working on reducing burden of head load for villagers, their domain was rural development. Prof. Shridhar Deshmukh was mentor for this team.

Smart India Hackathon 2017
To make development a comprehensive mass movement and put governance within everyone’s reach in India, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, envisages a Digital India to bridge the digital divide in our country and further promote digital literacy in order. In order to work towards our PM’s vision, MHRD, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Inter Institutional Inclusive Innovation Center (i4C) and Persistent Systems organized Smart India Hackathon 2017, a unique initiative to identify new and disruptive digital technology innovations for solving the challenges faced by our country. The initiative was a huge success.
Pillai College of Engineering contributed in this event in 2017. In Smart India Hackathon 2017, three teams, Team Stature, Team Sierra and Team Innovate were selected for Grand Finale. The departments of the problem statements were (National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Government of India) NCPCR and Ministry of Earth Science.
